Fungi decompose dead and decaying organic matter much like leaves, twigs, logs, and animals. They give the soil back nutrients like carbon, nitrogen and minerals, the recycle nutrients quickly. They are also the main decomposers of hard parts of plants and they can damage fruit trees, cause damage inside wooden houses and boats.
Fungi as pathogens ( disease-causing) the obigate pathogens ( always causing disease). Opportunistic pathogens normally don't cause a problem until changes occur in the host's homeostasis.
Humans overuse and use incorrectly antibiotics, which can destroy certain beneficial bacteria in the digestive system letting organisms like fungi to thrive. Fungi are hard to treat because they are eukaryotes, its hard to make medicine that will harm fungi cells but no harm to the human cells.
Members of the phylum get food by decomposing dead or decay matter. Mycorrhizae are mutualistic partnership between fungi and the roots of certain plants. Plants take inorganic nitrogen from the soil and then convert it to nitrates and ammonian.
